Even though George W. Bush will likely leave office with one of the lowest job approval ratings for a president, his solid first term average will rank him in the middle of the pack of presidents with a 49% approval average during his entire presidency.

Gallup Poll Daily tracking continues to find 93% of liberal Democrats expressing confidence in Barack Obama, despite news reports that they are unhappy with some of his recent actions. Meanwhile, conservative Republicans’ views of Obama have improved in recent weeks, up from 23% to 29%.

The Wells Fargo/Gallup Small Business Index hit a new low in the fourth quarter of 2008, with many small-business owners saying they are generating less revenue, cutting capital spending, and eliminating jobs.
